Are you ready to hit the fairways?
We are halfway through winter and there’s no better time to hit the range and get fairway ready for the warmer seasons.
Just because it’s a little cold outside, doesn’t mean you can’t hone your golf skills. As the colder weather sets in, golfers understand how their shots and distance of the ball are impacted, which is why the practice range is essential to ensuring you’re hitting your best throughout July and August.
Start off your range visit with layers of clothing suitable to the weather in your local area. Extra layers of clothing affect how you swing including body rotation, speed and shots.
Take note of distances and ball flight and where you can, adjust your swing to accommodate conditions.
Winter is also time to regrip your clubs! Our Pro Shop is fully equipped to assist with regripping of all clubs with expert advice to make sure you’re getting the most out of your swing.
Our top tips for winter golf:
- Hit the range!
- Be prepared – make sure you have wet weather gear in your buggy! Check into the Pro Shop preround and stock up on handwarmers, an umbrella, wet weather gear and golf balls!
- Stay warm – beanies and winter golf gloves help to retain body heat. Switch out the fabric summer golf shoes for solid coverage with waterproofing – you'll thank us later! Keeping golf balls warm on the fairways is easily done with pocket handwarmers!
- Warm up – Always warm up pre-round during winter! Arrive at the course half an hour earlier and grab yourself a small range bucket to get your body and muscles in the best condition to play nine or 18 holes.
- Local rules – Check with the Pro Shop on local rules. Ground Under Repair (GUR) and preferred lies are common this time of year with additional hazards in play.
- Ditch the golf cart – Water on the course softens the fairways! By walking, you are reducing potential damage caused by golf carts. And don’t forget to leave your buggy on the side of the greens!
- Divots and sand buckets – Repair divots as you go and always carry a sand bucket. It takes a little longer during winter for the ground to repair!
